Chiropractic Care in NYC- Common Questions:

What is Chiropractic?

Proper function of the nervous system is very important, since the brain sends signals via the nervous system to various organs, muscles, and tissues in order to control and coordinate their proper function. When there is any type of nerve interference, dysfunction results. Without correction, disease processes occur. Our NYC Chiropractor can correct these misalignments by gently adjusting the position of the vertebrae of the spine, reducing or eliminating the compressed nerve; thus restoring normal function and allowing the nervous system to return to its natural state of wellbeing.

What is a chiropractic adjustments?

If you are suffering from back pain, neck pain or headache pain a chiropractic adjustment can assist in providing relief.

A Chiropractic Adjustment restores proper motion to the spine, which removes irritation to the associated nerve. Our NYC Chiropractor utilizes a variety of techniques in performing safe, specific adjustments. An audible sound can often accompany a chiropractic adjustment. The actual "popping sound" is called a cavitation, and it is the release of gas that makes the sound. The joints of the spine are called synovial joints and they produce a fluid called synovial fluid. Synovial fluid lubricates the joint for movement. When a joint is gapped, or opened up, the gas is released and you hear a distinctive popping sound. This popping sound is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released.

The popping sound has nothing to do with bones cracking, should not be painful, does not cause arthritis, or your joints to become enlarged. Not all adjustments can be heard, and therefore the pop does not indicate a successful treatment. An adjustment can be very therapeutic and provide benefits regardless of a popping sound is present or not.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Even though, chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic care are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief and euphoria following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current literature shows that minor discomfort or soreness following a spinal adjustment will typically fade within 24 hours.
